‘The Last Waltz’ Hits The Road
Michael McDonald, Don Was and Warren Haynes are among those who’ll be taking to the American road in the new year for the first leg of The Last Waltz 40 Tour: A Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of The Last Waltz.
The tour will be a recreation of the two-night, sellout event that took place at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans during Jazz Fest 2016. That marked the 40th anniversary of the famous farewell concert by The Band with a stellar line-up of guests including Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell and countless others.
The tour, which will use the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint, will also feature Jamey Johnson, John Medeski, Ivan Neville, Terence Higgins and others, with further guests to be announced. Dates begin on 21 January in Hollywood, Florida, with stops including the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey.
“I’ll never forget the experience of playing these songs with this group of musicians in New Orleans earlier this year,” says Michael McDonald. “We are celebrating something truly special and I’m honored to be a part of it.” Adds Warren Haynes: “The Last Waltz is a true piece of rock n’ roll history. The music is as soulful, relevant and powerful today as it was 40 years ago. We can’t wait to carry on the legacy of these songs for fans.
