10?! Just open the nearly endless list to top 100 to start. I just play whichever one happens to be my favorite at the time. And I love introducing my 5th graders to the music of this awesome man.
I see you basically picked those songs that performed better on a commercial standpoint. Because most of the real good stuff is actually missing, like others have pointed out: He-O, A Song, Albedo 0.69, Spiral, La Petite Fille De La Mer, 1492 The conquest of Paradise; many others; and this is actually remaining still in the “iconic” realm for Vangelis. And without getting into the Aphrodite’s Child discography…
By far my favorite Vangelis song is Memories of Green. It’s actually on two of his albums, See You Later, and the Blade Runner Soundtrack. Whichever you pick, from one these or from anything he’s created, it’s going to far and above anything else anyone else has ever done.
Nothing about his music seems less than that which the most famous composer’s throughout history have produced. His choice of “instrument/s to produce the sound is irrelevant (but fascinating). His music ushers in a beauty and timelessness which can open the eyes and heart to non-material riches available to us all. In addition to those pieces mentioned already, I also love Prelude & Monastery at La Rabida.
very hard choice 🙂
