Bob Marley’s 70th birthday year celebrations continue with the September 25 release of two new vinyl box sets, ‘The Complete Island Recordings’ and ‘The Complete Island Recordings: Collector’s Edition.’ To set the scene, watch the trailer here, and then order yours at the link below.
These sumptuous collections feature 11 albums pressed on high-quality 180-gram vinyl, spanning a decade of vintage releases by Marley and the Wailers for Island Records. Each album, including the two-disc live set ‘Babylon By Bus,’ will also be available individually on 180-gram vinyl, from the same date.
The album sequence features all nine of the group’s studio albums for Island and two live releases. The sequence begins with their 1973 Island debut ‘Catch A Fire’ and concludes with ‘Confrontation,’ released two years after Marley’s death, in 1983.
‘The Complete Island Recordings’ will have the albums packaged in a rigid card box with lift-top lid, and wrapped in silver paper that simulates the brushed metal finish of a hinged lighter. The ‘Collector’s Edition’ will also contain a 70th anniversary slip mat and two photos in glassine envelopes, all packaged in a unique metal box set, which is numbered and lined with velvet. Both of the boxes will include the Marley 70th birthday logo.
The LP artwork faithfully replicates the original pressings, so fans can look forward to such visual extras as the original poster included with 1975’s ‘Live!’, the original gold metallic jacket with embossed lettering from 1977’s ‘Exodus’ and the die-cut cover with colour printed inner sleeves showing through on ‘Babylon By Bus.’
