C2C Special: ‘Crash My Party’
Eight years after he first charmed US audiences en route to his status as a country superstar, Luke Bryan makes his much-anticipated UK debut tonight (Saturday) at the C2C Festival at London’s 02. Tomorrow, he moves with the show to Dublin’s 3 Arena, and the shows follow Bryan’s appearances at the festival in Oslo and Stockholm last weekend. To mark the occasion, we’re focusing on his current smash hit album ‘Crash My Party.’
When it was released in the summer of 2013, the album became an instant sensation, the confirmation of Bryan’s place at the very forefront of the modern country scene. ‘Crash My Party’ sold more than half a million copies in its first week on release, for a No. 1 debut on both the US pop and country charts.
Luke debuted the first new music from the album when he performed the title track and first single from ‘Crash My Party’ at the ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards in April 2013. Written by Rodney Clawson and Ashley Gorley, the mid-tempo love song went on to No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, and No. 2 on Hot Country Songs. By the end of the year, the song had sold more than 1.5 million downloads.
Then, a week before the star from Leesburg, Georgia unveiled this new, fourth album, its second single, the rambunctious ‘That’s My Kind Of Night,’ was released. Bryan’s brand of so-called “bro-country,” with all of its feelgood lyrics about girls, trucks, parties and drinking, was lapped up by his fans: the song raced to the top of Hot Country Songs, going on to a dizzying total of two million downloads.
So the ‘Crash My Party’ phenomenon has continued across a total of six hit singles, three more of of which became country chart-toppers, ‘Drink A Beer,’ ‘Play It Again’ and ‘I See You.’ That last number, written by Bryan with his friends Ashley Gorley and Luke Laird, topped the survey for two weeks last month, February, as the album’s, and Bryan’s, remarkable run showed no signs of slowing down.
