A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free…

Elliott Smith Either/Or Album Cover

US singer-songwriter Elliott Smith died ten years ago today under a tragic and controversial set of circumstances that continue to provoke conspiracy theories as to whether or not it truly was suicide.

First emerging from the alt-rock scene with his underrated band Heatmiser, it was Elliott Smith’s solo work that brought him slow-burning adulation. Smith’s battles with depression and addiction were laid bare for all to hear via deeply poetic and melancholic songs, most of which were lo-fi folk and pop rock songs heavily indebted to the Beatles (of which Smith was a super-fan).

Smith never really had any real hits, and Smith fans will forever be in disagreement over his which was his greatest album or song.

RIP Elliott Smith.
