This week’s journey takes us from from the tenor vocals of Rufus Wainwright to the unique glittery pop of Bryan Ferry, via the giants of Robert Plant and Genesis… Here’s how:
1) Rufus Wainwright -> Teddy Thompson – Rufus is a close friend of Teddy and made a cameo appearance as Elvis Presley in Teddy’s video for “In My Arms” from the album “A Piece Of What You Need”.
Sandy became the lead singer of Fairport Convention in 1968 following the departure of Judy Dyble
2) Teddy Thompson -> Richard Thompson – Richard is Teddy’s Father and one of the founding members of Fairport Convention.
3) Richard Thompson -> Sandy Denny – Sandy became the lead singer of Fairport Convention in 1968 following the departure of Judy Dyble.
4) Sandy Denny -> Robert Plant – Robert has always been a massive fan of Sandy and named her his favourite singer “of all the British girls that ever were”.
5) Robert Plant -> Queen – Robert was a major influence on the early Queen, particularly on Freddie Mercury.
6) Queen -> Genesis – John Anthony who produced Queen‘s debut album also produced Genesis’s “Trespass” and “Nursery Cryme”.
7) Genesis -> Roxy Music – Both Genesis and Roxy Music had early success in Italy.
8) Roxy Music -> Asia – John Wetton of Asia has also played with Roxy Music.
9) Asia -> The Beach Boys – In 1990 Asia toured Europe with The Beach Boys.
10) The Beach Boys -> Bryan Ferry – Bryan covered The Beach Boys song “Don’t Worry Baby” on his album These Foolish Things.
