The Who Announce Deluxe ‘WHO’ With ‘Beads On One String’ Remix
The deluxe edition will feature tracks from the band’s acoustic club shows at Kingston in February, their only dates of 2020.
The Who’s highly successful and widely acclaimed 2019 album WHO is to be released in a deluxe edition on October 30. To coincide with the announcement, today (6) sees the release of Pete Townshend’s own Yaggerdang Remix of its track “Beads On One String.”
The new mix is a somewhat more stripped-down interpretation of one of the more reflective songs on the album, of which Townshend said: “This is a co-write with Josh Hunsacker who I met on Soundcloud. He wrote the music, I wrote the lyric and vocal melody. In 1932 on a visit to London the spiritual master Meher Baba said that he had come to draw all the religions of the world together like beads on one string. We wait in hope, with love.”
The new, 2CD version of WHO will feature that mix on the first disc, along with the full, original album. The second disc will be formed of tracks from The Who’s club dates at Pryzm in Kingston, south London on February 14 this year, their smallest live shows for more than 40 years.
The only Who shows of 2020
The band played two shows in Kingston on Valentine’s Day, the exact 50th anniversary of the release of the band’s classic Live At Leeds album, and two before that on February 12. With the unavoidable postponement of their 2020 tour, these were their only live shows of the year.
The Who’s tour of the UK and Ireland will now begin on March 5, 2021 at 3Arena in Dublin, with London dates at the Royal Albert Hall (March 20) and the SSE Arena, Wembley (22). The itinerary concludes on March 29 at the Manchester Arena.
Tracks from the acoustic show in Kingston on February 14 include “She Rocked My World,” from the WHO album, and enduring favorites such as “Substitute,” “The Kids Are Alright” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” On December 4, a box set of 7-inch singles will be released, featuring six black vinyl discs of the tracks from WHO, plus the Live at Kingston CD.
The deluxe WHO album is released on October 30. Pre-order it here.
