Weller In Producer’s Chair For Stone Foundation
Paul Weller has produced, played and sung on the forthcoming new album by Stone Foundation, the British group comprising Neil Sheasby and Neil Jones. Street Rituals will be released by 100% Records on 31 March.
Weller not only oversaw the ten-song set, at his own Black Barn Studios in Surrey, but co-wrote two tracks and plays piano and guitars and adds vocals, including the lead on ‘Your Balloon Is Rising.’ The album also boasts appearances by two American soul heavyweights, William Bell and Bettye LaVette.
“Paul contacted us at the start of 2016 after hearing our last record,” says Jones. “He wanted to know if we’d like to get involved with a demo he’d been working on and we obviously grasped the opportunity with both hands.
“‘The Limit of a Man’ was born out of those early exchanges and from that point onwards we never looked back. Paul pretty much joined the band for the recording sessions, playing guitar, piano and adding vocals to several songs as well as overseeing the production of the record.”
“I think they’ve made a great bit of work with a strong message, one you don’t hear much about these days,” says Weller. “A very mature, very accomplished album and I’m glad to have been part of it.” Stone Foundation will open for Weller at his Teenage Cancer Trust gig at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 31 March.
