Listen To The Weeknd’s New Track, ‘Blinding Lights’
Rapidly following his previous new track, ‘Heartless’, the new synth-heavy tune also soundtracks a new Mercedes-Benz advert.
The Weeknd has shared the full version of his latest single, ‘Blinding Lights,’ his second new song of the week.
The singer, born Abel Tesfaye, previously unveiled a minute-long teaser and a brief vocal snippet for the synth-heavy track, which also soundtracks a new Mercedes-Benz advert. The singer has partnered with the automobile giant to serve as creative director for a new global campaign tied to the track. Now, The Weeknd has dropped the complete three-minute version of ‘Blinding Lights’, which you can check out below.
On Wednesday, the Weeknd released ‘Heartless,’ his first new solo song since his ‘My Dear Melancholy’ EP arrived in March 2018. “Tonight we start a brain melting psychotic chapter let’s go,” he tweeted Tuesday before “Heartless” arrived.
‘Heartless’ marked the first new music from The Weeknd since he appeared on NAV’s Bad Habits album back in March and before that, Gesaffelstein’s second studio album, Hyperion in January of 2019.
He also teamed up with SZA and Travis Scott for ‘Power Is Power,’ their contribution to the Game of Thrones-inspired For The Thrones album.
The Weeknd will perform both ‘Heartless’ and ‘Blinding Lights’ during a two-night visit to The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on 5 and 6 December.
While the Weeknd hasn’t shared details about a new album, the follow-up to 2016’s Starboy, the Safdie brothers, who recently directed Tesfaye in Uncut Gems, tweeted of The Weeknd’s upcoming LP, “This whole album is like plugging into a degenerate HIFI system at a club at 5am. Love it,” which the Weeknd retweeted.
Hinting at big things to come in a tweet last year, The Weeknd said of the upcoming project: “some chapters are smaller than others. Not this next one though…”
Speaking to the crowd during a show in his home city of Toronto, he teased: “I wanna let you guys know, being in Toronto these past two days… I haven’t been this inspired in years, I got to tell you.”
