Watch The Video For The Weeknd And Gessafelstein’s New Track ‘Lost In The Fire’
‘Lost In The Fire’ is also likely to appear on Gessafelstein’s upcoming album ‘Hyperion’.
The Weeknd and Gessafelstein, the techno-DJ-turned-R&B-producer for acts like Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky, have released a new collaborative track titled Lost In The Fire.
Teased earlier this week, Lost In The Fire follows two Gessafelstein-produced tracks on The Weeknd’s ‘My Dear Melancholy’ EP, and it arrived in conjunction with the latest episode of The Weeknd’s Beats 1 radio show Memento Mori.
The track features The Weeknd’s smooth vocals laid over one of Gesaffelstein’s signature dark techno beats. Driven by rhythmic percussion and a looping clap, the tension of the song builds to cathartic chorus points defined by a feeling of loss.
Credited as a Gesaffelstein production featuring The Weeknd, ‘Lost In The Fire’ is likely to appear on the producer’s upcoming album Hyperion on Columbia Records. In terms of Weeknd projects, the Canadian vocalist has been teasing Chapter 6, reportedly a new album that the artist says is “coming soon”. “Being in Toronto these past two days, I haven’t been this inspired in years,” he told a crowd in November.
If Chapter 6 does materialise, it would mark the official follow-up to The Weeknd’s last full-length album, Starboy, released through Republic Records/XO in November 2016. That album featured guest appearances from Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar and Future. It was supported by six singles: ‘Starboy’, ‘I Feel It Coming’, ‘Party Monster’, ‘Reminder’, ‘Rockin’’ and ‘Die for You’.
Starboy received a series of positive reviews and debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200. It also debuted at number one on Billboard’s Canadian Albums Chart. In June 2017, the album was certified double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and it went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York in January 2018.
