Watch Kacey Musgraves and Lukas Nelson On ‘Austin City Limits’
The cutting-edge artists thrilled fans with performances on the long-running live series, aired on 10 November 2018.
Two of the most innovative names in American roots music, Kacey Musgraves and Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real, performed sets on the live showcase institution Austin City Limits on Saturday (10). You can watch songs from both appearances below.
Two-time Grammy winner Musgraves delighted the audience on her first time on the show since her 2014 debut. She played songs from her current, highly successful Golden Hour, which is nominated for Album of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards, taking place in Nashville on Wednesday (14). Country music’s biggest night also sees Musgraves nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year.
Musgraves performed a seven-song set on ACL with a sequin-studded silver saddle suspended over the stage, opening with ‘Slow Burn,’ one of several tracks she played from the current album including its final track ‘Rainbow,’ which you can see above. She also delved back into her 2013 breakthrough album Same Trailer Different Park for the much-loved ‘Follow Your Arrow’ and invited the crowd to “Get on your roller skates, Austin” for the disco-flavoured ‘High Horse.’
Nelson and his band made their ACL debut with a five-song performance highlighting songs from their much-lauded, eponymous album of 2017. The six-piece Group of the Year nominees at the Americana Music Awards played the album’s ‘(Forget About) Georgia,’ seen below, as well as ‘Something Real,’ the non-album ‘Turn Off The News’ and Nelson’s appropriate and charming solo ‘Just Outside Of Austin.’
Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in American television history. Its pilot episode aired in October 1974 and starred Lukas’ father, Willie Nelson. It inspired the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival, the 2018 edition of which starred Metallica, St. Vincent, Brandi Carlile and many others. ACL airs weekly on PBS stations across the US, and full episodes are made available online for a limited time at the show’s website.
