The new video was hand drawn in the painterly style of Christmas cards and decorations of the 1940s and ’50s to conjure a timeless feeling.
Dean Martin’s legendary ‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!’ is the latest in the series of classic holiday tunes to receive a new animated music video treatment for the festive season.
Created by animation studio Fantoons, the delightful new ‘Let It Snow! Let It Snow!’ video was hand drawn in the painterly style of Christmas cards and decorations of the 1940s and ’50s to conjure a timeless feeling. Dean Martin sings and celebrates with family and friends at a magical holiday gathering complete with all the traditional festive accoutrements. You can check the video out below.
Also known as simply ‘Let It Snow’, the legendary song was written by lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne in July 1945. It was written in Hollywood, California, during a heat wave as Cahn and Styne imagined cooler conditions.
First recorded for RCA Victor in 1945 by Vaughn Monroe, the song became a popular hit, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Best Sellers music chart in late January and through February 1946. Woody Herman’s competing recording, featuring him on vocals and a notable trumpet solo by Sonny Berman, peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard chart, while Connee Boswell reached No. 9 with her rendition.
Dean Martin recorded what is often regarded as the definitive version of ‘Let It Snow’ in 1959, as part of his album A Winter Romance, and a re-recorded version in 1966, as part of The Dean Martin Christmas Album. Though internationally renowned, the song only entered the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in 2018.
More recently, both Carly Simon and Rod Stewart have recorded versions of ‘Let It Snow’. Simon’s 2005 recording is unusual in being sung from the point of view of the host instead of the guest. It peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.
Rod Stewart, meanwhile, recorded ‘Let It Snow’ on his 2012 album Merry Christmas, Baby. His version reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart in December that same year. The song remained in the No. 1 spot for a total of five weeks, tying it for the longest leading rendition of a holiday title in the history of the chart.
