The Vest Of Iggy Pop
In your record collection, you may have a ‘Best of Iggy Pop‘ album. You’ve almost certainly seen images showing the chest of Iggy Pop. Soon you’ll be able to buy the vest of Iggy Pop.
One of rock music’s longest-running outlaws has teamed up with Sailor Jerry Clothing, the fashion division of the rum brand, to create ‘The Flash Collection by Iggy Pop.’ Pop’s contribution sets out with the “hero” piece, which is a denim vest — to be followed by the announcement of the other two items in October.
‘TV Eye,’ Iggy’s song with the Stooges from their 1970 album ‘Fun House,’ is already the soundtrack of the latest Sailor Jerry ad campaign ‘Life Outside The Lines,’ making him a natural for the new collection. It will be available in a handful of selected stores around the world from next month.
‘The Flash Collection’ is an annual collaboration between Sailor Jerry and an artist whose music and spirit reflects the company’s ethos. It’s named after the “flash” tattoo sported by the tattoo artist known as Sailor Jerry, Norman Collins. Last year’s inaugural collection featured musician and artist Paul Simonon, formerly of the Clash, with whom the company created a limited edition leather jacket.
Meanwhile, Iggy Pop is continuing his run as a radio presenter with a typically idiosyncratic series of Sunday afternoon shows for BBC 6 Music. Last weekend’s (September 7) featured his choice of songs on the theme of disasters, while today’s (14) edition is on the subject of blue, with music by David Bowie, Beach House and Billie Holiday.
