Underworld Launch New Musical Project ‘Drift’, Announce Amsterdam, London Club Dates
‘Drift’ is an ongoing experiment that will regularly publish new Underworld material – music, film, stories and more via the band’s official website.
Underworld have launched a new, cross-platform musical project entitled Drift. This on-going series is described as “an epic year-long road trip” by the band (Karl Hyde and Rick Smith) in collaboration with Tomato and friends old and new – from playwrights to DJs, jazz and techno musicians to painters and poets.
Drift is an ongoing experiment that will regularly publish new Underworld material – music, film, stories, etc – via the band’s official website. The first release of Drift, Episode 1 sees ‘Another Silent Way’ sound-tracking a film made in collaboration with the UK drift racing community and Tomato and shot entirely at the Rockingham Speedway in Corby in summer 2018.
‘Another Silent Way’, shows the Underworld duo are still planting their feet firmly in their world of live dance music. The new track is uniquely and unmistakably Underworld, all thunderous drums, relentless acid lines and cyclone vocals. This new recording is both a standalone digital release and the first in a series of weekly instalments in the Drift series. You can check out the track below.
Further elements of Drift Episode 1 will be released weekly every Thursday.
Additionally, Underworld have announced a series of very special club shows in Amsterdam and London November and December. These gigs promise to be the most intimate the band have played since the early ‘90s. Their last London headline gig at the 10,000 capacity Alexandra Palace sold out five months in advance. At these new shows, Underworld will be experimenting with a mix of brand-new material, classic tracks and little heard gems from their deep archive.
A ticket pre-sale for both the Amsterdam and London shows will be available from 9am GMT / 10am CET on 5 November. Remaining tickets will be available via general sale at 9am GMT / 10am CET on 7 November.
