Thunderpussy Cover Jefferson Airplane’s Iconic ‘Somebody To Love’
The song comes just one day ahead of a Supreme Court case that will determine the fate of the band trademarking their name.
The all-female rock band Thunderpussy share their rocking cover of Jefferson Airplane’s chart-topping 1967 hit, ‘Somebody To Love’.
The song comes just one day ahead of a Supreme Court case that will determine the fate of the band trademarking their name.
The band has been trying to trademark their name since May 2015 and in August of that same year, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) denied their request, stating that the name “Thunderpussy” is “immoral” and “scandalous”, under the guidelines in the Truman-era Lanham Act of 1946 and is therefore unregistrable.
When asked why they chose this particular song to cover, the band shared, “At a time when it feels like empathy and compassion are lost and the polarization of thoughts and ideas is paramount, maybe it’s time to stop looking for someone to blame and instead find someone to love”.
Since Jefferson Airplane first topped the charts with ‘Somebody To Love’ over 50 years ago, it’s remained an emblematic reminder of the counter-culture movement, and Thunderpussy is the perfect group to tackle Grace Slick’s fiery hit.
Since releasing their self-titled debut album last year to critical praise, the band has been touring non-stop, with more scheduled dates this summer throughout North America, with support from Black Pistol Fire.
Known for their electric live shows, the band has made a name for themselves on the road.
