The country star wrote the number with frequent collaborators Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, Sean Douglas, and his father and former country hitmaker in his own right, Rhett Akins. “I wrote this song from the point of view of two people who are in love during senior year of high school,” says Rhett.

“I envisioned them headed off to different schools and they’re starting to understand that the moment the weather starts to change, they’ve got a 99-percent chance this relationship is not going to work. I know that myself and a lot of people have been there before, wishing the fireworks stage doesn’t have to end.”

He adds: “I remember being at a writer’s retreat, looking out at the changing leaves & asking summer to slow down…and this song was born. Now, it’s that time of year again & I’m so excited to have it out for y’all.”

Rhett’s Country Again: Side B is also due next year as the “other side” of his Valory release of this past April, Country Again: Side A. That set yielded two more country airplay No.1s for the artist, “What’s Your Country Song” and “Country Again.”

After completing his Center Point Road Tour, Rhett is due to perform at the 55th annual CMA Awards on November 10, where he’s nominated as Male Vocalist of the Year. He is due to complete the performing year with a December 11 Live Fest show in Naples, Florida and has 2022 engagements including the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA on April 29. Other stars on that bill include Carrie Underwood, Brothers Osborne, Midland, and the Black Crowes.
