The Weeknd Announces Immersive Music Special, ‘The Dawn FM Experience’
The special program will air on Amazon Prime Video this weekend
The Weeknd has announced The Dawn FM Experience, a new immersive music special based on his latest album.
The special will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Saturday (February 26) and will expand January’s Dawn FM album “into a mesmerizing visual, creating a theatrical performance event that will envelop audiences in its unnerving and moody world.”
“I’m ecstatic to partner with Amazon to premiere the most elaborate live TV special I’ve ever done,” The Weeknd’s Abel Tesfaye said in a press release. “Welcome to the next phase of Dawn FM — a purgatory otherworld where live performance, theater, and performance art collide for a night out at the club.”
“Dawn FM is a masterful display of the Weeknd’s artistic vision and creative genius,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, added. “We are so proud to work with Abel and XO Records to collaborate across Amazon and share this stunning, brilliant, and immersive visual experience with our global customers.
“With ‘The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience,’ Prime Video and Amazon Music continue to be destinations where artists can present their most ambitious projects without limits or bounds.”
The Dawn FM Experience will only be available to Prime subscribers. Other content will be available around the special program, including an eight-track live EP that will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon Music.
An exclusive merch capsule will also be launched to celebrate the special. The range will be made up of limited-edition items and will only be available to customers in the US via amazon.com/theweeknd from 3pm ET on Friday (25).
To accompany Dawn FM’s release, The Weeknd held a special livestream called ‘103.5 Dawn FM.’ “The power of the 103.5 Dawn FM experience is that maximum fulfillment comes when all who hear it are tuned in at the same time,” Tesfaye said at the time.
Dawn FM was released on January 7, 2022, and is the follow-up to the critically-acclaimed, multi-award-winning After Hours. It featured guest appearances by the likes of Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, Tyler, The Creator, and actor Jim Carrey.
