The Weeknd, Calvin Harris Drop New Collaborative Single
Smooth and funky, ‘Over Now’ also features a colorful, 3-D animated visual.
After both offering teasers on their respective social media accounts last week, The Weeknd and Calvin Harris released a collaborative single, “Over Now.” Accompanying the smooth, funky slow-jam is a mind-bending visual, featuring immersive, 3-D animation.
Yesterday, The Weeknd also announced a new merch collection that celebrates the fifth anniversary of Behind the Madness. The massively popular sophomore album included such hits as “The Hills,” “In the Night,” and “Can’t Feel My Face,” which topped the pop charts in the US, Japan, Mexico, Australia, and Canada, among several other territories. The acclaimed album also garnered the artist two Grammy Awards, four Platinum records, a diamond certification for “The Hills,” and an Oscar nomination for “Earned It,” which was featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.
The Behind the Madness 5-Year Anniversary Collection offers a wide selection of merch, including a long-sleeve tee which features the album’s tracklist on either arm, a t-shirt integrating art from “The Hills” single, and a denim jacket. A special black and yellow-splattered vinyl edition of the album is also available via The Weeknd’s official store.
The Weeknd, whose single “Blinding Lights” was recently named one of Spotify’s “Songs of the Summer” has had a busy season himself. He recently partnered with TikTok for the platform’s first-ever AR concert experience. The record-setting “Weeknd Experience” pulled in more than two million total unique viewers, while videos that users shared with #TheWeekndEXP hashtag garnered more than 1.3 billion video views. The groundbreaking concert, plus sales from limited-edition merch, also raised $350,000 for the Equal Justice Initiative.
Earlier this month, The Weeknd partnered with Spotify to launch “Alone With Me,” an immersive and intimate AI microsite experience based around his latest record, After Hours.
His first studio album in four years, After Hours not only debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 but also made The Weeknd the first artist to top Billboard’s Hot 100, the Billboard 200, Artist 100, Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts simultaneously.
Tomorrow night, The Weeknd will perform at the 37th annual MTV Video Music Awards, joining an all-star lineup of acts, including Lady Gaga, BTS, and DaBaby. The artist is also up for multiple awards, including Video of the Year (for “Blinding Lights”) and Artist of the Year.
