After releasing their experimental 2020 album, Imploding The Mirage, the band has been hard at work through lockdown to create their seventh album.

The news comes after the band’s frontman, Brandon Flowers, revealed that he is undergoing shoulder surgery after a recent cycling accident that Flowers described as “not looking great” in a fan Q&A on Instagram Live, putting the band’s UK tour in question.

The Killers are currently set to start their UK tour at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium on May 25, after it was rescheduled from its original 2020 date due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

This album update is the latest since the band’s drummer, Ronnnie Vannucci Jr., shared snippets of a song on Instagram Live before leading viewers around a recording studio in January.

The band also shared a mysterious potential tracklist and footage that showed guitarist Dave Keunig back with the band.

Speaking to Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig on Apple Music, Flowers said: “It’s almost done and we’re going to mix the record next week. We don’t have a drop date, but it’s pretty much done! It sort of fell into our laps. Some songs are laborious sons of b_tches and then some just appear. This album just kind of appeared and we’ve never had that happen. We’ve had songs appear but never an entire record like this. We’re almost confused by it, but we’re going with it and we’re really excited about it.”

The band previously confirmed a new album was in the works last year, with Flowers telling NME that might be “even better” than Imploding The Mirage.

During the livestream, Flowers and Vannucci Jr. also shared hints about songs on the new record, with Vannucci Jr. referring to one as a “novel,” while Flowers called it, “a seven-minute song about a slot technician with a gambling problem.”

A release date for the upcoming album has not been confirmed.
