The Killers ‘Mr Brightside’ Named Spotify’s Most-Streamed Song In The U.K.
The track previously broke U.K. chart records in 2021
The Killers’ early single “Mr Brightside” has been named the most-streamed song on Spotify in the U.K.
The track was released as the lead single to the band’s 2004 debut album, Hot Fuss, and has enjoyed consistent popularity since it was first shared.
To mark 15 years since Spotify was launched, the brand has shared some of the most-streamed artists and songs on the platform. “Mr Brightside” topped the list of the 15 most-streamed songs on Spotify, beating Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You,” and Drake’s “One Dance,” among others.
Although specific streaming figures for the U.K. were not released, “Mr Brightside” has been streamed over 1.8 billion times around the world through October 9, 2023.
As well as a list of the most-streamed songs, Spotify also shared the top 15 artists from the U.K. by global streams and the biggest tracks on the platform by U.K. artists. In the former list, Sam Smith, The Beatles, Elton John, Ellie Goulding, and Lewis Capaldi all made an appearance.
Meanwhile, the latter saw Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” come in at No.2, followed by Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves.”
“Mr Brightside” is no stranger to making waves in the U.K. In 2021, it set a new chart record after it spent 260 non-consecutive weeks in the Top 100 of the Official U.K. Singles Chart. That figure has since risen to 382 weeks.
The Killers recently returned with its latest single, “Your Side Of Town,” and shared an eerie music video for the song, which follows a showgirl in Las Vegas as she stalks another woman across the city. The track was produced by The Killers, long-term acolyte Stuart Price, and Shawn Everett. The band gave the song its live debut as it headlined Reading & Leeds 2023 days after the track’s release.
