Out September 6, the much-anticipated collection features the new track ‘Perfume.’
The Dare has announced his debut album, What’s Wrong With New York? The much-anticipated collection of dance punk songs is out September 6 on Republic Records. The announcement arrives with a new single called “Perfume,” which is accompanied by a black-and-white music video directed by Nick Harwood.
This fall, The Dare will embark on his first ever headlining tour of North America. The shows begin September 5 at New York’s Webster Hall and continue with dates in Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more. Tickets are available for purchase now.
What’s Wrong With New York? was recorded over the last year between The Dare’s home and studio in New York. The album features two songs that appeared on 2023’s The Sex EP, “Good Time” and “Girls.” The album features songwriting and production collaborations with Dylan Brady (100 gecs), Emile Haynie (Lana Del Rey, FKA twigs, Dua Lipa), Romil Hemnani (Brockhampton), Chris Greatti (Yves Tumor, Yeule), Isaac Eiger of Strange Ranger and more.
The Dare is the solo project of vocalist, songwriter and producer Harrison Patrick Smith. The Dare emerged in 2022 with the now-ubiquitous “Girls,” which The New York Times named as the fifth best song of 2022 describing it as “epically silly and epically debauched.” Since then, The Dare has become an in-demand producer known for his raucous live shows, DJ sets, and recurring downtown Manhattan party Freakquencies.
The Dare has been busy ahead of the release of What’s Wrong With New York? In June, The Dare opened for Charli XCX at her first-ever Brat performances in New York and Los Angeles. He also produced “Guess” off the Brat deluxe edition. In May, The Dare played a sold out series of U.K. and Europe dates as well as a number of festivals including Primavera and Great Escape.
