‘The Beatles: Get Back’, ‘Hacks’ Among Winners At 2022 Emmy Awards

The Beatles: Get Back and Hacks were among the winning films at the 2022 Emmy Awards. Peter Jackson’s much-acclaimed Get Back won in the Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series category, with Hacks’ Jean Smart winning in the Lead Actress in A Comedy Series award.

HBO’s Succession topped the nominations with 25 award nods, picking up three, including Outstanding Drama Series. Nearly every lead cast member was up for an award, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, J. Smith Cameron, and Nicholas Braun, while Matthew Macfadyen took home Emmy gold for his portrayal of Tom Wambsgans. The drama still faced tough competition this year from Netflix’s Squid Game, which upset the HBO darling in more than one category.

Winner of Outstanding Variety Special (Live) at the 2022 Emmy Awards was the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show.  Earlier this month, the  Television Academy had announced that the performance, starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, has won three Creative Arts Emmy awards.

In the 2022 Emmy Awards comedy category, Ted Lasso largely came out on top, while newcomer sitcom Abbott Elementary managed to take home a couple of awards, reminding everyone that network TV still exists and can, in fact, be pretty great. When it comes to the limited series category, HBO’s The White Lotus cleaned house against (almost) everything Hulu had, including Dopesick, The Dropout, and Pam & Tommy.
