That’s The ‘Spirit’: Gregory Porter Makes The UK Top Ten
‘Liquid Spirit,’ the Grammy-winning Blue Note debut of Gregory Porter, which has been charming record buyers since its appearance in 2013, has today (Sunday) reached a new landmark — hitting the top ten of the UK album chart for the first time.
The album was released by the famed jazz label in September 2013, a few months after Porter signed with the company. It entered the UK chart that month and has been a fixture on the bestsellers for most of the time since then. ‘Spirit’ is certified gold in the UK and won last year’s Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
Until today, the album’s peak position in the UK was No. 12, but the recent release of a deluxe edition has given the record new impetus. The new version features four new tracks and a bonus live DVD. In the sales data published by the Official Charts Company, ‘Spirit’ climbs from No. 14 to No. 10, thus reaching that higher chart ground for the first time. The album had already hit the top ten in Holland, Germany and Denmark.
As reported here at uDiscover last week, Porter has been announced as one of the first artists, along with Van Morrison, for the bill of what will be a new concert series, Nocturne At Blenheim Palace, on June 25.
