Taylor Swift, Drake And Ariana Grande Lead 2019 iHeartRadio Awards
The ceremony which aired on Fox was hosted by rapper T-Pain and featured performances by Halsey, Garth Brooks and Kacey Musgraves, among others.
Taylor Swift, Drake and Ariana Grande were all big winners at the 2019 iHeartRadio Awards on Thursday night, 14 March, at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.
The ceremony, which aired on Fox, was hosted by rapper T-Pain and featured performances by Ariana Grande, Halsey, Garth Brooks and Kacey Musgraves, among others.
Taylor Swift gave an emotional speech after accepting the award for Tour of the Year award for her Reputation stadium tour, which pulled in a record-breaking $345.7 million, making it the highest-grossing US tour by any artist.
Swift responded to her critics who’d predicted she’d be playing to “nearly empty stadiums” saying, “I’ve learned a lot – life is really unpredictable. People can make forecasts and predictions, but they may not come true if there’s an unforeseeable factor involved. And in this case, that factor was my fans. I honestly owe everything in my life to you” she said.
Another highlight of the awards was Ariana Grande. After the Grammy Awards debacle, the pop sensation was able to perform her song ‘Needy’ for the first time, off her recent No.1 album Thank U, Next. Grande also took home the iHeartRadio Awards prize for Female Artist of the Year, while Drake was chosen as Male Artist of the Year.
Fresh off her Grammy win for Album Of The Year, country star Kacey Musgraves performed her single ‘Rainbow’ alongside Coldplay’s Chris Martin on piano and perched atop a giant rainbow. Musgraves won Best Cover Song for her rendition of Shania Twain’s ‘You’re Still The One’ with One Direction’s Harry Styles.
But Musgraves wasn’t the only country icon in attendance. Garth Brooks was awarded with the first-ever Artist of the Decade award for his lasting influence on the music industry and performed a medley of hits including ‘Asking Me How I Know’ and ‘Friends In Low Places’, when he was joined by actor Chris Pratt.
Other big Awards winners of the night included Imagine Dragons for Alternative Rock Artist of the Year, Greta Van Fleet’s ‘Safari Song’ for Rock Song of the Year and rising star Ella Mai for both R&B Artist of the Year and Best New R&B Artist.
