Taron Egerton’s Star Turn In ‘Rocketman’ Among 2020 SAG Nominations
The 2020 SAG Award Nominations were announced today, and ‘Rocketman’ star Taron Egerton was among the list of nominees for his role as Elton John.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations were announced Wednesday morning, with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Irishman and Bombshell sweeping the big nominations along with nomination for Taron Egerton who starred as Elton John in the biopic Rocketman.
“I’m not entirely sure what’s going on but I’m absolutely over the moon,” Egerton wrote on social media following the news. The film star was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture.
“What a week. Thank you so, so much. Staggered by the people I am nominated alongside. Staggered. Thank you SAG Awards.”
With awards season in full swing, the musical biopic is starting to gain critical momentum in a number of races. The film also picked up three Golden Globe nominations earlier this week including for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Original Song, Motion Picture for ‘I’m Gonna Love Me Again’ and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for Egerton’s career-making role.
With the Academy Award nominations slated for 13 January, Egerton, along with the rest of the Rocketman cast and crew, will most likely be part of the Oscar races as well.
The Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists’ annual celebration of the year’s best TV and film will take place on 19 January at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
