Swedish House Mafia Debut No.1 On ‘Billboard’ Dance/Electronic Chart
The group is preparing for a massive tour kicking off in July.
Paradise Again, the debut full length by global supergroup Swedish House Mafia, has just debuted at No.1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, their first chart topping release in a decade.
The news hits the day after the trio’s second headlining performance with pop auteur The Weeknd at Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival. The performance featured an expansion of the stunning live production from weekend one, giving fans a preview of the visual spectacles awaiting them on the Paradise Again Tour that kicks off this July, including support on select dates from Alesso, ZHU, Grimes, Vintage Culture, Kaytranada, and more.
Paradise Again came together in the wake of the group rediscovering their musical synergy on their highly touted 2019 reunion tour. The trio spent innumerable hours in the studio over the subsequent years, exorcizing new sonic palettes, textures, and tones from an arsenal of analog synths.
While the material is recognizably Swedish House Mafia, it also represents a broadening of their musical scope, as evinced by the wide ranging roster of collaborators and guests, including The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky, Sting, Ty Dolla $ign, 070 Shake, Jacob Mühlrad, and more. The album has been heralded by a volley of huge moments, including cover stories for Billboard and SPIN, a hit collaboration with The Weeknd on “Moth To a Flame,” a nomination for iHeartRadio’s Dance Artist of the Year for 2021, and much more.
“There’s always new ground to break,” states founding member Steve Angello. “However, the biggest challenge was to do what nobody expected us to. We needed to find sounds in the studio we had never heard before and were excited about. It’s super inspiring for me to be in a band where we actually want to challenge ourselves. This is definitely one of the most exciting times for us, because we’re having fun like 15-year-olds again.”
