The pyrotechnics were on full display, when Maroon 5 performed all of their biggest hits to millions of people during the Super Bowl LIII’s halftime show in Atlanta, Georgia.
From their latest collaborative hit with Cardi B ‘Girls Like You’ to ‘This Love’ and fan favourite ‘Moves Like Jagger’, Adam Levine and Maroon 5 were in top form. Adding to the spectacle were special guests rapper Travis Scott and Outkast’s Big Boi. The later showed up in his signature fur to perform ‘The Way You Move’ from Outkast’s iconic 2003 double-album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and represented host city’s influential music scene.
Later Scott joined the band on stage during an intro to their surprise Spongebob tribute and performed his towering hit ‘Sicko Mode’ before crowd surfing off stage.
Rumours of a tribute to the late creator Stephen Hillenburg of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series had been circulating for months and the band granted the internet’s wishes, playing the song ‘Sweet Victory’ from the episode titled ‘Band Geeks’.
The band wrapped up their performance with ‘Moves Like Jagger’ and a massive fireworks display during which Levine went full rock star and took off his shirt.
Before the game, Maroon 5 also donated their entire $500,000 Super Bowl fee to the children’s charity Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
In an interview just days prior to the game, Levine told E! “playing the Super Bowl has been a dream of our band for a long time.”
After the pyrotechnics died down, the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams returned to the field to continue the game.
