Stereophonics Announce New Album ‘Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait’
Hear lead single ‘There’s Always Gonna Be Something’ from the UK mainstays’ first LP since 2022’s ‘Oochya!’
Stereophonics‘ 13th studio album is called Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait, but the longstanding Welsh band won’t keep fans hanging on much longer. The follow-up to 2022’s Oochya! is coming April 25, and lead single “There’s Always Gonna Be Something” is available now.
Two exclusive versions of Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait are available now for pre-order through the band’s shop: a color vinyl LP and a limited edition collectible 7-inch box set featuring the full tracklist of the album spread out across four discs. The album is also available in classic black vinyl.
“There’s Always Gonna Be Something” locks into a midtempo acoustic groove as the band’s Kelly Jones continually returns to the phrase, “There’s always gonna be something, so what’s it gonna be today?” Jones says it’s about “the restlessness in uncertainty, struggling to arrive at acceptance. A part within all of us.”
As for the new LP, its title is painted on a pink backdrop, inspired by some artwork Jones encountered in his travels. “I went to New York, I visited some galleries, I saw ‘ART IS A GUARANTY OF SANITY,’ a painting by Louise Bourgeois,” Jones explained. “She believed art was a form of mental healing and a way to process difficult emotions. The spelling caught me first, then the simplicity of the words etched onto a pink tile. So I tried scratching my title, inspired by my own art school teacher thirty years ago. And I loved it. I loved the simplicity of the pink. The pink album was born.”
Stereophonics will tour across the UK and Ireland this summer, including a headlining set at the Isle of Wight Festival in June, a hometown show at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in July, and a massive gig at Norfolk’s Royal Sandringham Estate in August.
