Hear Soccer Mommy’s New ‘Single Series’ Instalment With Beabadoobee
All net profits from the ‘Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series’ benefits Oxfam International’s COVID-19 relief fund and National Bail Out.
Soccer Mommy just dropped the second instalment of her bi-weekly Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series. Available on Bandcamp, the new, two-song volume spotlights the talents of singer-songwriter Beabadoobee. Future editions of the series, which benefits Oxfam International’s COVID-19 relief fund and National Bail Out, will feature MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden and Beach Bunny.
Soccer Mommy, aka Sophie Allison, kicked off the series in May with singer-songwriter Jay Som. While the first instalment found Allison and Som covering each other’s songs, the newest volume takes a different approach. Beabadoobee offered up a demo version of ‘If You Want To’, off her 2018 EP, Patched Up, and Allison selected a demo of ‘night swimming’, off her new album, color theory.
In a statement, Allison said that she chose the song because, “I like how stripped back and simple it is. It’s not that far off from the album version but it just kind of gets to the core of the song.”
Beabadoobee added, “I’m excited to be a part of this compilation with Soccer Mommy. We met last year in London and have a lot of musical similarities. I’m honoured to help in any way with the proceeds going to charities for COVID and BLM. My song on the compilation is an original demo of ‘If You Want To’ recorded in London before recording the full band version.”
Soccer Mommy & Friends Singles Series will include a total of four volumes – eight tracks in total – with the final one dropping on 2 July. Fans can preorder the collection today via Bandcamp, and receive the first four tracks instantly. All net proceeds will be split between Oxfam’s COVID-19 relief fund, which works with partners to help more than 14 million people in nearly 50 countries, and National Bail Out, a Black-led and Black-centered collective, which aims to end systems of pretrial detention and mass incarceration.
In recent Soccer Mommy news, the indie rocker released her fourth studio album, color theory, in February. The album was widely embraced by critics on both sides of the Atlantic. The Guardian praised it as “A glorious record”, while Paste called color theory an “Astounding feat of lyricism…. To call it an early contender for the year’s best indie rock album wouldn’t be an exaggeration.”
color theory is available now and can be bought here.
