Sinéad O’Connor Announces First US Shows In 4 Years
Sinéad O’Connor has announced two new US tour dates under her the name “Magda Davitt”, her first since 2014.
Her live dates include stops at Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s Music Hall on 24 April and the following night at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton, Massachusetts.
The Irish singer announced her new moniker during an interview on the American talk show Dr Phil, back in September of 2017. During her candid interview, O’Connor was forthright about some of her personal problems and struggles with mental health as of late, but after receiving treatment it appears she’s reportedly on the mend and ready to return to the road.
Fans were encouraged by a recent surprise performance she gave at Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan’s 60th Birthday concert back in January, covering MacGowan’s ‘You’re The One’. O’Connor was joined by the likes of Bono, Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols, Imelda May, Clem Burke of Blondie and Nick Cave at star-studded Dublin celebration.
While it’s only the two dates listed so far, the press release states that O’Connor is “slated to begin touring in the summer of 2018”.
O’Connor’s most recent album was 2014’s I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss, described by Spin magazine as “complicated and multi-faceted, nuzzling excruciating vulnerability right up to voracious ferocity, swinging between swaggering blues and soul-searching adult-alternative”.
With 10 studio albums to her name, O’Connor has been one of the biggest Irish singers to crossover and achieve global pop dominance, and her cover of Prince’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ remains her musical signature.
