Watch Sam Hunt’s ‘Young Once’ Video From No. 1 Album ‘Southside’
The track is part of Hunt’s domination of Billboard’s country sales and airplay charts.
In the week that his sophomore album Southside debuts at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Albums chart, Sam Hunt has released a new video for its track ‘Young Once.’
The cinematic clip, directed by Tim Mattia, depicts a young couple as they escape the confines of their lives to pursue freedom and excitement. The song was written by Hunt with Zach Crowell, Matt Jenkins and Josh Osborne, and was singled out by Billboard, who wrote that it “highlights Hunt’s soulful vocals.”
The album, released on 3 April, made a winning start on the country survey with 46,000 album-equivalent units, making for a No. 5 debut on the all-genre Billboard 200. It was the highest-selling country album entry of 2020 to date. Its predecessor Montevallo entered at No. 1 in November 2014 and spent nine weeks at the summit. That set now has album-equivalent units of 3.9 million, according to Billboard, of which 1.4 million are album units.
The new album features Hunt’s No. 1 hit ‘Kinfolks’ as well as his current, Webb Pierce-sampling single ‘Hard To Forget,’ which Hunt performed on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday (13). It climbs 18-15 on the Country Airplay chart and 17-9 on Hot Country Songs. That gives the artist concurrent top ten hits, as ‘Kinfolks’ climbs back 10-7.
In further evidence of Hunt’s chart domination, the album’s ‘2016’ enters Hot Country Songs at No. 25, ‘Young Once’ at No. 34, ‘Breaking Up Was Easy In The ’90s’ at No. 35 and ‘That Ain’t Beautiful’ at No. 50. ‘Sinning With You,’ which previously peaked at No. 27, re-enters at No. 41.
As if all of that wasn’t impressive enough, Hunt’s 2017 smash ‘Body Like A Back Road,’ which is also on Southside, re-enters Country Streaming Songs at No. 22. It spent a then-record 34 weeks atop Hot Country Songs.
