‘The Borders’, which is Fender’s favourite from his debut record, is accompanied by a video from director Thomas James that tells the story of two friends going their own ways after an entire childhood together.

‘The Borders’ comes after the young Tyneside singer-songwriter’s debut album Hypersonic Missiles shot to number one upon release at the beginning of September.

It’s only the fifth debut album to top the Official UK Albums Chart this year, following Tom Walker’s What A Time To Be Alive, Dave’s Psychodrama, Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and Lewis Capaldi’s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.

In a four-star review of Hypersonic Missiles, NME said: “Sam Fender’s debut album isn’t particularly voguish – it’s a bloke with a guitar singing about ‘issues’. Those words might make you recoil, but the Geordie Springsteen knows his way around a tune.”

The fast-rising star will embark on a sold-out headline tour of the UK and Ireland later this year, before returning for an arena tour in April 2020.  The itinerary includes Fender’s biggest shows to date at London’s Alexandra Palace and Newcastle Arena. Visit the artist’s official website for further information.

He’s also been confirmed to support Kasabian at their Leicester homecoming show in June 2020, alongside Inhaler and Easy Life.

Sam Fender’s UK tour of March and April 2020 includes the following dates:

20 March – O2 Victoria Warehouse, Manchester
21 March – O2 Victoria Warehouse, Manchester
23 March– Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow
24 March – Barrowland Ballroom, Glasgow
27 March – Alexandra Palace, London
30 March – De Montfort Hall, Leicester
31 March – Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff
2 April –First Direct Arena, Leeds
3 April – Utilita Arena, Newcastle.
