Robert Glasper Concert Film ‘Robert Glasper Experiment – Live’ Gets DVD Release
Robert Glasper Experiment, the Grammy Award-winning band featuring influential Texan-born pianist and record producer Robert Glasper, release their acclaimed concert film Robert Glasper Experiment – Live on DVD and digital platforms through Eagle Rock Entertainment on 16 March.
Their first concert film release, Robert Glasper Experiment – Live captures the two-time Grammy-winning collective delivering powerhouse performances on various stages, from New York to Los Angeles, Shanghai to Rotterdam.
The program presents favorite songs from the two Black Radio albums (‘Calls,’ ‘Ah Yeah,’ ‘Gonna Be Alright’) and more with special guests including Lalah Hathaway, Bilal, Wayne Brady, B. Slade, Algebra Blessett, and the Metropole Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza. Also included are covers of Radiohead’s ‘Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box’ and Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’. The project was compiled by celebrated director J. Kevin Swain (Alicia Keys, Tupac, Patti Smith, Billy Joel), who also directed the Los Angeles and New York performances.
Robert Glasper has recorded seven albums for legendary Jazz label Blue Note. His debut for the label was 2005’s Canvas and in 2012 he released the critically-hailed Black Radio which the 2013 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. He was also victorious at the Grammys for his soundtrack for the film Miles Ahead (a biopic of the legendary Miles Davis), which won Best Soundtrack Compilation at the 2017 awards ceremony.
Robert Glasper Experiment’s paradigm-shifting blend of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and neo-soul pushed their star-studded Black Radio albums to chart-topping heights. Breaking through genre boundaries to create a singular, sinuous sound, the quartet – jazz pianist Glasper, Casey Benjamin (vocoder, saxophone, keyboards), Derrick Hodge (bass) and Mark Colenburg (drums) have worked with such artists as Erykah Badu, Mos Def and Lupe Fiasco.
Boasting performances filmed around the globe, Robert Glasper Experiment – Live is a memorable showcase of this prodigious group of musicians at work, buoyed by a superstar array of talent.
