Bon Jovi, Sting, Billy Joel, Many More For ‘Rise Up New York!’ Telethon
The event, to be hosted by Tina Fey, has been organised by iHeartMedia with the largest poverty-fighting organisation in New York, Robin Hood.
Bon Jovi, Sting, Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel and Bette Midler are among those scheduled to take part in the virtual telethon Rise Up New York! at 7pm ET on 11 May.
The event, to be hosted by Tina Fey, has been organised by iHeartMedia with the largest poverty-fighting organisation in New York, Robin Hood. It will raise funds and awareness in aid of New York residents who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stellar line-up for the telethon includes a host of celebrities from the city, drawn from the worlds of music, film, theatre, comedy, sport and more. Also part of the one-hour event are New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Angie Mar, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Platt, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Chris Rock, Christopher Jackson, Idina Menzel, Robert De Niro, Spike Lee, Sutton Foster, Trevor Noah, former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck and Phil Simms. The show will also feature real life stories from the pandemic frontline.
“A whole new set of challenges”
Robin Hood CEO Wes Moore said in a statement: “New York City is at the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic. This crisis has created a whole new set of challenges for the millions of New Yorkers who already struggled to make ends meet. This is a moment where we must all come together and rise up together as a community in support of our neighbours and in support of one another.”
One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to Robin Hood and their work in providing food, shelter, cash assistance, health and mental health, legal services and educational support for the city’s most vulnerable inhabitants during these difficult times.

The telethon will br broadcast across the city on such television stations as News 12, New York Spectrum 1, WABC (ABC), WCBS (CBS), WNBC (NBC), WNYW (FOX), WWOR (MyNetworkTV), WPIX (CW), and WLNY, and nationally on CNBC. On New York radio, it will be on Z100 (WHTZ-FM), LITE-FM (WLTW-FM), Power 105.1 (WWPR-FM), Q104.3 (WAXQ-FM), 103.5 KTU (WKTU-FM), WOR-AM and more.

The Who should’ve been on the bill! They’re the Kings of New York, having owned the Concert for New York City in 2001, and 12/12/12 in 2012!
