Re-Live Classic Primavera Sound Sets Through Saturday
The Barcelona festival, postponed until 2021, will celebrate its 20th anniversary by streaming past performances from Blur, Jamie XX, Destroyer and more.
Though Primavera Sound might have been postponed until next summer, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Barcelona festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary through a series of live-streams, beginning tonight, through 6 June – when it was originally scheduled to take place. The series, available via the PS Life site, will let listeners re-live epic sets from past festivals, including those from Blur (2013), Jamie XX (2017) and Destroyer (2016).
Other highlights for the weekend include a 2018 set by Warpaint, Caribou’s performance from 2015 and Sharon Van Etten in 2014. A 2015 set from DJ Coco will close out the programing on Saturday evening.
Last week, Primavera Sound announced the new line-up for the rescheduled 2021 festival, which will still include many of this year’s anticipated acts, including The Strokes, Beck, Bad Bunny, Bikini Kill and Iggy Pop.
In an official statement on 11 May, organisers confirmed that the 2021 lineup “Will still celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival embracing the #bestfestivalforever philosophy thanks to the great commitment and effort of the artists themselves, who have also been greatly affected by the current situation and who will do everything possible not to miss this event. It doesn’t matter when it is: this will be our anniversary party and we want to celebrate it with everyone who was going to come this year.”
Tickets purchased for the 2020 festival will be valid for the rescheduled dates, and those who choose to keep them will be given “special benefits” at the 2021 event. Those seeking refunds can make requests via Primavera Sound’s website.
Though several of the major headliners for 2020 are not on the initial 2021 announcement, festivalgoers can still expect an incredible lineup of talent. In addition to the artists listed above, confirmed acts include Tame Impala, Bauhaus, The National, Young Thug, Gorillaz and Dinosaur Jr, among many others.
