Post Malone And Swae Lee’s ‘Sunflower’ Is The First-Ever Double-Diamond Single
The song is the first-ever double-diamond certified single at 20x platinum.
Six years after being released as part of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack, Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” is still breaking records. The RIAA has shared that “Sunflower” is now the first song in history to go double-diamond or 20x platinum, meaning it’s hit 20 million units in the U.S.
Breaking that number down, RIAA counts each download, on-demand audio and video single stream as one unit. By reaching an equivalent of 20 million sales, “Sunflower” has beat its own record of 17x platinum set back in 2022.
“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier shared in a statement. “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x diamond single!”
When “Sunflower” was first released, it rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 two months after it was first released. The success marked Post Malone’s third number one hit and Swae Lee’s first. The song’s success only continued to grow from there, and it now holds the most RIAA certifications of all time.
“Sunflower” may have achieved a unique milestone, but Post Malone is no stranger to Diamond status. Last year, Post became the artist with the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles: boasting eight tracks with the achievement. In addition to “Sunflower,” those tracks are “White Iverson,” “Congratulations” (featuring Quavo), “I Fall Apart,” “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage), “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign) “Better Now” and “Circles.” In honor of the status, Post released his first compilation album, “The Diamond Collection,” featuring the eight Diamond certified-songs plus the new single “Chemical.”
February is already a big month for Post Malone. He will be performing before the Super Bowl Pre-Game, where he’ll sing “America the Beautiful” before kick-off. He was also just announced as a featured artist on Taylor Swift’s upcoming record The Tortured Poets Department.
