PJ Harvey’s ‘Is This Desire?’ Set To Return On Vinyl
The album received Grammy Award nomination and featured Harvey’s biggest UK hit single with ‘A Perfect Day Elise’.
Is This Desire?, the fourth studio album by PJ Harvey, is set for release on vinyl on January 29, 2021 alongside a collection of unreleased demos which will be available on CD, vinyl and digital, through UMC/Island.
Is This Desire? was co-produced by Flood, Head and Harvey, and recorded in Somerset and London. It received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance of 1998 and featured her biggest UK hit single with “A Perfect Day Elise”, which reached number 25 in the charts.
Recorded on and off in Somerset and London between April 1997 and April 1998, Is This Desire? was co-produced by Flood, Head and Harvey herself, and featured instrumental contributions from Rob Ellis, John Parish, Mick Harvey, Eric Drew Feldman, Joe Gore and Jeremy Hogg. It marked a move away from Harvey’s earlier guitar-driven rock style into subtler, quieter, atmospheric soundscapes and mood pieces based around keyboards, bass and electronics.
The release will be accompanied by a full restoration of the previously unreleased video for “Angelene”, as well as both videos for “The Wind” and “A Perfect Day Elise”. The reissue is faithful to the original recording and package, cutting by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering under the guidance of long time PJ Harvey producer Head.
Prior to this release, UMC/Island’s on-going reissue campaign has already seen PJ Harvey’s 1992 debut, Dry, her second album, Rid Of Me and her much-acclaimed third, To Bring You My Love, released in new vinyl editions, all of which have been issued with contemporaneous, stand-alone demo albums.
