Watch Trailer For Ron Howard’s New Pavarotti Documentary
‘Pavarotti’, Ron Howard’s new documentary, is an intimate portrait of the life, loves and music of the world’s best-loved operatic tenor.
Pavarotti, from the filmmaking team behind the highly-acclaimed documentary The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, takes an intimate look at the iconic singer who took opera to a worldwide audience. Academy Award winner Ron Howard’s exploration of Pavarotti’s life goes beyond his public persona to reveal the true man behind the image. Featuring history-making live performances and revealing interviews, including never-before-seen footage, CBS Films will release Pavarotti in select US theatres on 7 June 2019. Watch the official trailer below.
Created from a combination of Luciano Pavarotti’s genre-redefining live performances, and access to never-before-seen footage, the Pavarotti documentary will give audiences an intimate portrait of the world’s best-loved operatic tenor. Thanks to unique access to the Pavarotti family archives, including home videos, behind-the-scenes and extensive live music footage, the documentary tells the full story of Pavarotti’s life, growing up as the son of a baker and amateur singer in northern Italy before achieving worldwide fame as opera’s greatest star. The documentary also looks at Pavarotti’s private life – as a husband and a father, a philanthropist and a dedicated artist driven by a unique talent, reveals a complex man who was never less than fully committed to his passions. As his collaborator Bono once put it, “The reason why he is so great is because he lived those songs.”
“His artistic ambition drove his career”
“Pavarotti’s life was replete with the highs and lows of great drama and, like any compelling character, he was also a man of considerable contradictions,” says director Ron Howard. “His artistic ambition, propelled by his massive talent, and his deep love for humanity drove his career and the powerful bond with his audiences, but they also fuelled his other life as a philanthropist. I am intrigued by the way his emotional passion not only drove his music and his powerful bond with his audiences, but his gift of his other life as a philanthropist.”
As Decca Records celebrates its 90th anniversary, the historic label will release the official Pavarotti soundtrack, featuring arias and songs from the documentary, including studio and live recordings, on 7 June 2019.
