Earlier this year, it was announced that a brand new compilation, Bridget Jones’s Diary: The Mixtape, was set to arrive alongside the new film, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy. In addition to classics from the earlier films, a new track from a surprise artist was teased. Now, we know that surprise comes from Olivia Dean, with the release of the film’s lead single and end credits track, “It Isn’t Perfect But It Might Be.”
“I’ve always loved the Bridget Jones films, they’re timeless classics. After seeing Mad About The Boy I was so moved by the journey we’ve watched Bridget go on over the years,” Dean shared in a statement. “‘It Isn’t Perfect But It Might Be’ is about giving yourself permission to love again after grief, and trusting that things might just work out after all, even if it’s not how you expected them to. This is the first time I’ve been a part of something like this and I can’t wait for it to come out!”
The song’s chorus captures that journey: “You say no need to look behind me / That I can keep you here beside me / To make a mess of it, then make the best of it / It isn’t perfect but it might be.”
A synopsis for the new film reads: “Bridget Jones navigates life as a widow and single mom with the help of her family, friends, and former lover, Daniel. Back to work and on the apps, she’s pursued by a younger man and maybe — just maybe — her son’s science teacher.”
The new release was made in collaboration with the franchise’s music executive producer, Nick Angel. This “best of” brings together a range of the beloved and iconic tracks from the infamous world of Bridget Jones. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will also include Dean’s 2023 single “Dive,” from her debut studio album, Messy.
