Nilüfer Yanya Announces 2022 Tour Ahead Of New Album ‘Painless’
The tour kicks off March 10 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Mercurial London artist Nilüfer Yanya has announced her 2022 North American and European tour dates to celebrate the release of her sophomore album, PAINLESS, due out March 4, 2022 via ATO Records.
The 20-date North American leg of the tour follows the European dates and begins in April with stops in Austin, DC, New York, Toronto, Chicago and Salt Lake City before finishing in Portland on May 22. The European dates run through the month of March beginning in Glasgow with stops in London, Paris, Berlin and Amsterdam. Artist pre-sale begins tomorrow at 10am local time HERE and general on-sale begins Friday, Dec 3. Full tour routing is listed below.
The announcement of these tour dates follows the first offering from PAINLESS, “stabilise,” which Paste Magazine noted, “augurs great things to come on Yanya’s new record” and which Stereogum depicted as, “feather-light but which leaves a lasting impression.”
Over a fast-paced, nimble guitar line on the lead single, Yanya sings “There’s nothing out there / For you and me / I’m going nowhere.” It is a song about the mundanity of the city where dog fights, small flats, and endless high-rise buildings can induce claustrophobia. Nilüfer shared about the concept behind the single and video, “I was really thinking about your surroundings and how much they influence or change your perception of things. A lot of the city is just grey and concrete, there’s no escape.” She adds, “The video plays on the central theme in the song of no one coming to save you ever. It’s set in depths of reality in every day life where we are the only one’s truly capable of salvaging or losing ourselves. Nothing is out there -both a depressing and reassuring statement (depending on how you look at it). Sometimes you have to dress up as a spy or a rock star and just hope for the best.”
