Nicki Minaj Scores Her First No.1 Single With ‘Say So’
Minaj’s remix of the viral Doja Cat hit just went straight to No.1 on the “Billboard” Hot 100.
It’s been a long wait, but Nicki Minaj has finally scored her very first No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her bouncy remix of Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’. The original version of the song, which also inspired a TikTok dance trend, originally appeared on Doja Cat’s 2019 sophomore album, Hot Pink. The single marks the first No.1 hit for both rappers.
It may come as a surprise to fans that Minaj had not yet scored a No.1 hit before ‘Say So’, but she’s certainly come close. Since 2010, Minaj has released a total of 109 charting singles, both as a lead and featured artist. These include several No.3 hit singles, like ‘Super Bass’ (2011), ‘Bang Bang’ with Jessie J and Ariana Grande (2014), and the 6ix9ine track, ‘Fefe’, on which Minaj was featured alongside Murda Beatz in 2018. The flamboyant rap star has also hit No.2 with 2014’s ‘Anaconda’.
Minaj has also hit No.1 on the album charts multiple times, with her 2010 debut, Pink Friday, and follow-up Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), both of which topped the Billboard 200, R&B and Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums charts. Her sophomore album also went to No.1 in the UK. The Pinkprint (2014) and Queen (2018), meanwhile, both had impressive performances, peaking at No.2 on the Billboard 200.
Minaj embraced her well-deserved win on Instagram, thanking fans for their support, captioning, “Can’t thank you guys enough for going so hard this past week to help us make history. I saw it all. You’ll never understand how much you uplift me with the overwhelming love & support you continue to show. I love you so much. Like so much. So much.” She also had a note for Doja Cat, “Thanks for trusting me with your baby. Hope I lived up to your expectations. You’re so extremely talented & so deserving of this moment.”
The 10-time Grammy nominee, who has teased a forthcoming fifth album, released her first solo single of 2020 in February, called ‘Yikes’.
