Nicki Minaj Assumes The Throne In ‘Hard White’ Music Video
Nicki Minaj stuns in the latest visual for ‘Hard White’ off her platinum album Queen.
Decked out as a gothic Queen one moment and a Gaultier armoured suit the next, Minaj raps about maintaining her spot atop the rap throne: “My legacy could never be undone,” she raps over the Illmind beat.
The goth visuals suit the icy track, with Minaj surrounded by disturbing dancers. The video follows previously released visuals from the Queen LP including ‘Ganja Burns’, ‘Bed’, ‘Chun Li’, ‘Barbie Tingz’ ‘Barbie Dreams’ and the provocative ‘Good Form’ video featuring Lil Wanye.
As the album title suggests, royalty is the recurring theme for many of Minaj’s visuals including ‘Ganga Burns’ where she dons a headdress and is flocked by similar looking dancers.
The clip is directed by Mike Ho, the go-to director for hip-hop and R&B artists including the Cardi B and Kehlani collab, ‘Ring’.
The video has also stirred up some controversy in true Minaj fashion, with a scene of an exploding scorpion that seems to have the internet convinced is a direct shot at Drake, whose new album is titled Scorpion.
This month sees the MC heading overseas to Europe to launch her Queen tour, that kicks off in Munich, Germany at Olympiahalle on 21 February and finishes up at Hallenstadion in Geneva, Switzerland on 8 March.
Minaj had previously postponed her US tour dates with Future to 2019 after her album came out later than planned and didn’t allow for proper rehearsal time. While no official dates have been released yet, the rapper has promised updates for 2019.
Minaj is also slated to perform at the 7th annual BET Experience at L.A. LIVE as one of the headliners and her performance will lead up to the BET Awards that will take place on 23 June in Los Angeles.
