This year’s awards has another blockbuster musical biopic contending for the big awards for the night, with the Elton John biopic Rocketman up for ‘Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy’, its titular star Taron Egerton up for ‘Best Actor – Musical or Comedy’ and Sir Elton himself nominated for ‘Best Original Song’ for ‘I’m Gonna Love Me Again’, written by Elton and his longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin, and features vocals by Elton and Taron. Egerton not only played the pop icon, but also did all of the singing for the musical fantasy film.
Meanwhile Nick Jonas has been busy on tour with the rest of the Jonas Brothers, and recently rang in the New Year when the trio performed on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
According to Billboard, the band performed an hour-long set, but only ‘Only Human’ and ‘Sucker’ were broadcast as part of the New York City telecast.
The Golden Globes will air live from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday (5 January) at 5 pm. PT/8 pm ET on NBC.
Ricky Gervais will return as host for the fifth time, after his previous controversial (yet ratings-driving) appearances.
