Nelly Furtado Recruits Juanes For ‘Gala Y Dalí’
‘Juanes and I share a special musical frequency together. Our voices blend so magically,’ Furtado said.
Nelly Furtado and Juanes have reunited for a new single called “GALA y DALÍ,” shortly after promising that their story would continue during Juanes’ recent tour stop in Toronto.
That story began back in 2002, when both artists were coming off landmark award-winning debut albums. The duo came together to record “Fotografía” for Juanes’ now classic Un Día Normal.
The heartfelt duet of remembrance and longing for a lost love vaulted to No.1 on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs” chart and reached 6x Platinum certification. The song remains a multi-generational word-for-word audience sing-along at all of Juanes’ concert appearances.
Now, following Nelly’s surprise duet of the classic song at Juanes’ recent Toronto tour stop, the duo released a new single entitled “GALA y DALÍ.”
The song pays homage to Salvador and Gala Dalí, and was co-produced by Andres Torres, Mauricio Rengifo, and Sebastian Krys.
Furtado reflected on the collaboration, saying, “Juanes and I share a special musical frequency together. Our voices blend so magically. Working with him always feels like a natural, effortless fit. And in a way, ‘GALA y DALÍ’ celebrates 20+ years since we released our first song together, ‘Fotografía.’”
Juanes added: “For me it’s a profound delight to work with Nelly again. On this song, she takes me to a place of joy and light, that I could give myself an opportunity to break away from my sound, from what I play on the guitar, and go to a more Caribbean, more danceable SOUND, which Nelly also wanted to have in this song. After all these years to be with her again is a privilege.”
Following wide critical praise and sold out concerts across the country, Juanes’ celebrated “Vida Cotidiana” North American tour concluded this past weekend with a. special finale at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida.
Look for Nelly Furtado to also continue live performances, with special guest appearances this summer at major festivals across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Mexico.
