The single finds Moby utilizing the talents of Screaming Trees frontman and singer-songwriter Mark Lanegan (who appeared on the original) in duet with actor and country legend Kris Kristofferson. Their vocals merge with guitar, piano, organ, and strings to reveal new acoustic perspectives on one of Moby’s personal favorite songs.

“The Lonely Night” provides another glimpse into Reprise, set for release on May 28. Moby’s first collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon also includes reimagined versions of such hits as “Go,” “Porcelain,” “Extreme Ways,” “Natural Blues,” and “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?”.

Both this new single and the entire project reflect Moby’s desire to channel and direct his emotions as clearly and precisely as possible, using “the simplicity and vulnerability you can get with acoustic or classical music.”

Other guest artists performing on Reprise include Gregory Porter, Víkingur Ólafsson, Skylar Grey, Amythyst Kiah, Jim James, and the Budapest Art Orchestra.

2021 promises to be an exciting new chapter for Moby with the release of both Reprise and a documentary film, MOBY DOC. Directed and edited by Rob Bralver, the film will be distributed by Greenwich Entertainment and released in US theaters and on digital platforms on May 28, with a worldwide (ex-North America) premiere stream on the same day.

MOBY DOC is a surrealist biographical documentary narrated by Moby as he reflects on his turbulent personal life and iconic music from underground punk bands to chart-topping solo artist, and from struggling addict to vegan activist.

Moby’s Refrain is out May 28 and is available for pre-order.
