The greatest hits from Mike + The Mechanics are assembled on a new best-of compilation. Released ahead of a tour by the same name, Looking Back – Living The Years brings together tracks from across the supergroup’s 40-year career.
The most comprehensive Mike + The Mechanics compilation to date, Looking Back – Living The Years features the US No. 1 hit “The Living Years,” an Ivor Novello Award winner and Grammy nominee. Also on the album are the Grammy-nominated “All I Need Is A Miracle,” the band’s hit debut single “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground),” the international smash “Over My Shoulder,” and much more. All of the band’s lead vocalists—Paul Young, Paul Carrack, Andrew Roachford, and Tim Howar—are represented on the tracklist.
The accompanying Looking Back – Living The Years tour will be a celebration of Mike + The Mechanics’ four-decade run. The tour will traverse the UK in March and April, then transition to Germany in April and May, with Mike Rutherford joined by current lead vocalists Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar. The band has teased a setlist full of “all the hits and a drift into Genesis.”
Rutherford, a founding member of Genesis and the band’s longtime lead guitarist, initially started Mike + The Mechanics as a side project in 1985 during a Genesis hiatus. The Mechanics, which originally matched Rutherford with lead singers Paul Young (Sad Café) and Paul Carrack (Ace, Squeeze), went on to massive success in their own right, selling over 10 million albums worldwide.
After the group’s disbandment in 2004, Rutherford revived it with a new lineup in 2010. The current version of Mike + The Mechanics has continued to have success on the UK album chart, landing in the Top 10 with Let Me Fly (2017) and Out of the Blue (2019). The latter album combined re-recordings of classic Mike + The Mechanics hits with three new songs.
