Melody Gardot’s ‘Worrisome Heart’ Turns 15 With New Pink Vinyl Edition
Gardot’s much-acclaimed debut album will be back in circulation through Decca Records on November 17.
In celebration of the record’s 15th anniversary, Decca Records is set to reissue Melody Gardot’s critically acclaimed debut album, Worrisome Heart, on a beautiful pink colorway LP on November 17. The album will also be available on CD format.
Released when Gardot was just 22, Worrisome Heart cemented the singer-songwriter as the next, and brightest, jazz star of the 21st Century. Drenched in a sublime vapor of mellow blues, eclectic folk and jazz, the album is a ten-track collection of original songs co-produced by Melody Gardot and Grammy Award winning producer Glenn Barratt. Backed by the some of the finest musicians on the American jazz scene, the album boasts a superb narrative, nuanced phrasing, skilfully constructed arrangements and above all, Melody’s hauntingly beautiful voice.
On this debut record, Gardot’s vocals capture a range of emotions with maturity and subtlety. Echoes of Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald belie her jazz heritage, whilst her lyrics communicate a wise, determined and occasionally light-hearted take on life.
Worrisome Heart picked up numerous rave reviews on its initial release through Verve Records. The Sunday Times Culture suggested Gardot was “A remarkable talent by any measure.” Mojo said “Worrisome Heart…oozes charm and individuality,” while The Guardian described the album as “An intimate, jazz-tinged collection of songs.” The Washington Post, meanwhile, added, “Melancholy or irreverent, Gardot’s vocals fit snugly into the understated jazz arrangements. But what really sells these songs are the juicy melodies. If the chorus hook of her “Sweet Memory” reminds one of Carole King’s “Sweet Seasons,” that’s just a measure of the high standard she meets on all of her originals.”
Worrisome Heart includes the following tracks:
“Worrisome Heart”
“All That I Need is Love”
“Gone”
“Sweet Memory”
“Some Lessons”
“Quiet Fire”
“One Day”
“Love Me Like a River Does”
“Goodnite”
“Twilight”
