Masego And Devin Morrison Give ‘Yamz’ A Number Of Meanings In New Music Video
The video, directed by Mac Grant, finds the two R&B singers and songwriters leaning into the song’s playful double entendre.
Masego and Devin Morrison have shared the music video for their latest collaboration “Yamz” just in time for Thanksgiving.
The video, directed by Mac Grant, finds the two R&B singers and songwriters leaning into the song’s playful double entendre. In it, a content creator comes a hit on the fictional platform ONLYYAMZ, racking up tips, a street entrepreneur runs into trouble as he finishes up his final sales and a young student falls victim to peer pressure in an attempt to impress his crush. The whole neighborhood is on a mission to “get to the yamz,” wherever that word might mean to them.
“Listen, I ain’t tryna be stuck in a loop for life (Nah, all my life) / Told myself I wouldn’t start my day online (Talk about it) / Don’t wanna do, from that shape and how they move (She got them yams) / But is it just a distraction? / Oh, it drives my soul divine (Them yams got soul),” Masego sings on the second verse.
Morrison joins him on the bridge for a warming collaborative delivery as they sing: “I know those yams are made for me / No, but I’m only here for, the good pursuit of currency / They say, yams are the power that be (Power that be) / Oh, well, I need to play utilities / So tell me, can I get to the yams?”
“Yamz” follows up Masego’s previously released single “Garden Party” which recruits Big Boi and JID. The single has amassed more than 3.2 million collective streams in a month thanks to its smooth, neo-soul tone. He also recently released Studying Abroad: Extended Stay, the deluxe edition of his acclaimed 2020 EP, via EQT Recordings and Capitol Records.
Early next year, the singer will be touring the UK and Europe on a 20-city trek beginning on February 11 and wrapping on March 12.
