Mary J’s London Liaisons With Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith And More
50-million-record-selling soul queen Mary J Blige reinforces her place as one of the great R&B innovators of our times with news of her exciting new album project. Details have just been confirmed of Mary J’s London liaisons with Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith and more.
The upcoming set ‘The London Sessions,’ produced by Rodney Jerkins, will be released on November 22 and features collaborations, recorded as recently as this summer in the UK capital, with major British stars Sandé, Smith, Naughty Boy, Disclosure and the up-and-coming Sam Romans and Jimmy Napes.
The lead single from the album, ‘Right Now,’ was produced by Disclosure and has an impact date of October 27. You can stream it now at Mary J’s website, here. Mary will introduce some songs from the project when she performs at the iTunes festival at London’s Roundhouse on September 25.
“It’s all about the London music scene,” enthuses Mary J, “and I’m so excited to have been part of it, to record my album. The songs are fun, therapeutic and soulful. This is a beautiful change for me and I’m proud of what we have done here.”
“’The London Sessions’ is, number one, the bravest thing, and number two, just so honest,” says Sam Smith, and Disclosure adds: “It’s the reason that people like Mary are so successful – they’re just not afraid to change what they do completely.”
A 90-second trailer that provides a taste of how the album was made is being hosted from today by Pitchfork. The film tracks the soul superstar’s journey to London from its beginning to its end. ‘The London Sessions’ will be available for pre-order from September 23.
