Mary Chapin Carpenter Gets Orchestral In The UK
From ‘Passionate Kisses’ to ‘He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,’ ‘Down At The Twist and Shout’ to ‘Shut Up And Kiss Me,’ Mary Chapin Carpenter has been a songwriting treasure for more than 25 years. Now she’s announced that she’ll follow the release of her orchestral album for Decca/Rounder, ‘Songs From The Movie,’ with a UK visit in September and early October to play four concerts, each of them with a local orchestra.
It’s only fitting that MCC should cross the Atlantic for the shows, since ‘Songs From The Movie’ was recorded at AIR Studios in London, with a 63-piece orchestra and a 15-voice choir. She’ll include songs from the album, which featured ten of her songs remade with orchestral accompaniment, alongside many other classics from her vast songbook, at the four shows, details of which are as follows:
Mon Sep 29: Royal Albert Hall, London, with the London Concert Orchestra
Tues Sep 30: The Sage, Gateshead, with the Royal Northern Sinfonia
Wed Oct 1: Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, with Manchester Camerata
Thurs Oct 2: Usher Hall, Edinburgh, with the Scottish Festival Orchestra
Mary Chapin Carpenter has sold over 13 million records in her illustrious career, won five Grammy Awards from 15 nominations, two CMA awards and two Academy of Country Music. Tickets for the UK shows will go on sale on Friday, May 23.
